Human Capital Strategist (HCS) Certification

Create a competitive advantage through strategic human capital management

Human Capital Strategist (HCS) Certification

Traditional people management strategies are underwhelming and outdated. They fail to keep up with the pace of technology, evolving skill sets, and an increasingly global and remote workforce.

The Intersection of Human Capital and Business

Effective talent management is hard work. People are complex, and the individual and collective issues within the workforce require a new set of skills and a more holistic approach to driving human capital. Change is constant, and HR practitioners must keep up to remain relevant.

HCI's Human Capital Strategist Certification Program is a training and certification course designed to address the strategic issues at the intersection of human capital and business: maximizing talent strategies, implementing strategic workforce planning, engaging talent, and developing employees to their fullest potential.

Who Should Attend?

This course is designed to help early career and new practitioners across the HR function navigate and apply methods that add strategic value to their organizations. Some of the roles that will benefit from obtaining the Human Capital Strategist designation include:

  • Human Resources - Talent Management is the strategic dimension of traditional HR, and is the future of the field. HR professionals must understand the nuances of this area, and recognize how they can become experts in it to increase the value of their organization and advance their own careers.

  • Recruitment and Sourcing - Long-term, effective recruitment is about strategy, not commodity sourcing. Strong sourcing and access to critical talent pools have a direct effect on business outcomes. Recruiters and sourcing professionals need to see and understand how their work connects to the talent management lifecycle--and business success.

  • Learning and Development - Industrial-era management practices are ineffective at best, and detrimental at worst. Talent leadership is the goal for organizational development and learning functions. Every manager in an organization must implement talent practices, and it is HR's responsibility to ensure the workforce has the knowledge, training, and support required to do it effectively.

Why Should You Attend?

Theory, Practice, and Feedback
HCS is built on a foundation of talent management research and best practices, and is guided by HCI’s Talent Management model. Throughout the class, you will participate with your peers in activities designed to help you practice new skills and apply them to your own work. HCI facilitators will provide developmental feedback to ensure you are learning new skills and are confident about how to use them on the job.

What You’ll Learn
HCS is a highly interactive course that prepares new and entry-level human capital practitioners to move beyond tactical skills and into more strategic roles within their organizations and careers. You will see firsthand that effective talent management practices are critical to ensuring organizational strength and financial returns. You will explore HR in the context of the business, and learn how to align your work to support and inform organizational goals.

HCI’s extensive network of organizations, subject matter experts, and evidence-based research in the human capital field supplement this curriculum. You will hear from companies like PricewatershouseCooper about the global trends in talent you need to know about, and learn how organizations like Airbnb have redesigned their recruitment strategy. This course will help you build a roadmap to influence human capital management drivers and create a competitive advantage in your organization.

Learning objectives:

  • Explain how good talent management is a competitive advantage and its worth to your organization

  • Determine the strategies and processes necessary to move from tactical to strategic talent management

  • Identify best practices for each of the components and how you might use them at your organization
