Mike Laffin is the Head of Learning & Development for Moderna Therapeutics, a six-year-old biotechnology company that currently employs close to 600 people and has been listed as a top company by Science Magazine the last two years, a Boston Globe Best Place to Work the last two years, and a CNBC Top 50 Disruptor the last four years.
In his current role, Mike is responsible for developing and delivering a learning and leadership development strategy that will ensure the scale up of capabilities to keep pace with Moderna’s rapid growth. He is currently building Moderna’s corporate university that includes live curricula, a digital learning library, a comprehensive new employee orientation program, functional training consulting, and emerging leadership development programs.
Mike has twenty-five years of experience in the pharmaceutical / biotechnology industry including roles in sales, sales leadership, sales training, and the last twelve years holding senior human resource roles overseeing talent management and learning and development.
Mike holds a BA in Chemistry, a Master’s in Business Administration graduating Summa Cum Laude, and is completing a dissertation in pursuit of a Doctorate in Education. His academic focus is organizational leadership and his dissertation is focused on identifying the critical capabilities that will be required for effective biopharmaceutical leaders in the future.
